Migration and Displacement

Much of the population in the IGAD region remains poor and extremely vulnerable to climate change impacts. Increased frequencies of climate-related extended drought periods and intermittent floods coupled with active conflicts or fragile political systems have increased migration and displacement challenges.

Millions of refugees and internally displaced persons remain on the frontlines of the climate emergency in the region, with the least resources and capacity to adapt.

What We Do

  • We support enhancing local communities’ livelihood systems to prevent climate change-related loss of livelihoods that triggers migration and displacement.
  • We support vulnerable populations, including women, IDPs and internally displaced persons, in providing short-term humanitarian needs and long-term goals of enhancing their resilience and resettlement plans.
